Why Share Jesus with your Colleagues?

Can you still share your faith when you work from home?

BUT I DON'T SEE MY COLLEAGUES AS MUCH NOW?

We get it, you still work from home most of the time. You aren't in the office everyday and when you are, your colleagues are zooming with other team members interstate. The workplace feels so different, so where can you start?

Here are some good reasons to pray for opportunities to Share Jesus at work despite the changes.

1) YOU DO STILL SPEND A LOT OF TIME THERE

Many of your waking hours are spent at work (whether you like it or not). We commonly spend more time with our work colleagues than with our family or friends. Maybe these zoom meetings feel more task focussed than before, but you are stilling spending time with colleagues. It gives you contact with lots of people who don’t know Jesus. How many non-Christian friends do you have outside of work? How often do you see them? Compared with the contacts you have at work, the list is probably much shorter.

2) WORK HELPS YOU BUILD RELATIONSHIPS

Common projects, team meetings, brainstorming sessions, training seminars and as the year goes on there will be lunches and work trips. Working together is a natural way to get to know people just by turning up to face to face or online meetings and getting your tasks done.

3) PEOPLE AT WORK ARE MORE LIKE YOU

Whether you work in an office, a shop, a hospital, or a factory—you share the same subculture, education level and skill set with those beside you. It’s easier to relate to people from your work ‘tribe’: you’ve got lots in common and lots to talk about. You also went through similar challenges with WFH mandates if your job wasn't considered essential.

4) IT'S A CHANCE FOR PEOPLE TO SEE YOU LIVING OUT YOUR CHRISTIAN FAITH

Hopefully people at work see that you walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Whether you are spending some time in the office again, or working on building relationships on instant message or video calls, be intentional and consistent about the way your communicate in words and actions. They get to see you taking the teachings of Jesus seriously in your attitude to work, in how you treat people, in the way you cope with difficulty, and in other ways. This is powerful in making the gospel attractive.
